At MoreIn STEM, we believe that small shifts—when grounded in research and centered on people—can lead to real transformation. The Small Shift Framework combines two core tools: Micromoments (quick, student-facing teaching moves) and Micro-Initiatives (small, faculty-led cultural changes). Both are designed to be doable, responsive, and rooted in community.
| Step | Micromoment (Teaching Shift) | Micro-Initiative (Cultural Shift) |
|---|---|---|
| S — Start with Purpose | What concept, mindset, or skill do you want students to explore? | Who or what do you want to support, improve, or spotlight in your community? |
| H — Highlight the Why | Why is this moment important for learning or belonging? How does it tie to your goals? | Why does this issue matter to your team, values, or strategic priorities? |
| I — Identify the Design | Time, materials, groupings, instructions—how will this work in class? | What is your change idea? What small, visible action can you test in the next 30–60 days? |
| F — Frame with Intention | Ground it in EML, active learning, or inclusive pedagogy. What student need does it meet? | Ground it in care, equity, or leadership. How does it model inclusive, values-driven change? |
| T — Track What Matters | Will you reflect, gather feedback, or assess impact? Or just observe and adapt? | How will you know it worked? Will you collect feedback, reflect, or share outcomes? |
